Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used for decades to improve wound and soft tissue healing, and in recent years there has been a significant amount of research and clinical evidence supporting PRP’s regenerative properties for treatment of scars, fine lines, hair loss, and overall skin rejuvenation.

What are Platelets?

Platelets are tiny cell fragments in your blood whose main function is to help blood clot if a blood vessel is cut or damaged.  However, platelets also contain numerous growth factors and essential proteins that stimulate cell regeneration throughout the body.

What is PRP?

PRP is plasma with has a much higher concentration of platelets than is typically found in blood.  It is obtained by drawing a small amount of a patient’s blood and centrifuging it to separate the platelet rich plasma from the red and white blood cells.  The patient’s own PRP can then be re-injected and used for appropriate clinical or cosmetic treatments.

PRP Facial (Also known as “Vampire Facial”)

PRP Facial is the term used to describe a medical micro-needling treatment used in conjunction with PRP.  Micro-needling creates thousands of tiny channels in the skin to allow the PRP to reach the deeper layers of the skin where cell growth occurs.  The addition of PRP results in greater improvement in skin cell regeneration and collagen formation than occurs with micro-needling alone.

The PRP Facial is ideal for overall skin rejuvenation, including improvements in skin texture, pore reduction, brown spots, fine lines, and acne, surgical, or other scars.  For best results, you will need at minimum, a series of 3 PRP Facial treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart.

As with any micro-needling procedure, Dr. Faludi will numb your treatment area with anesthetic ointment to make you comfortable during application.  The actual procedure is completed in 20-30 minutes.

You can expect to have some redness and mild swelling for 2-3 days following your treatment, and you will be given special instructions and skincare products to protect your skin as it heals.   You will begin to see results shortly after the procedure, with continued improvement over the following months.

PRP Injections

PRP can be injected into the skin to stimulate new collagen formation in areas of the face that develop fine lines and creases with age.  In addition to softening facial lines, PRP injections have been effective in improving puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.  This treatment causes the skin to naturally repair itself; visible improvement is usually seen within 2-3 weeks.  For optimal results, 3-4 monthly treatment cycles are recommended

PRP injections may be used alone or in conjunction with Botox injections, and they can work very well together.  Botox temporarily softens the appearance of lines by causing muscles underneath the skin to relax, while PRP injections result in a more long-term softening of lines by stimulating aging skin to repair itself, which can, over time, reduce the need for Botox treatments.

Hair Restoration

PRP can also be used to stimulate new hair growth in areas of thinning scalp hair in men and women.  PRP is rich in platelets, which contain 20 separate growth factors that increase blood flow to hair follicles, stimulate the growth of new follicles, and lengthen the active phase of the hair cycle to promote new hair growth.  Both women and men have reported positive results in terms of increased hair thickness and regrowth.

During this treatment Dr. Faludi will inject PRP directly into areas with hair loss in a grid pattern.  To keep you comfortable during the procedure, Dr. Faludi may apply a numbing cream or inject an anesthetic.  Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the entire process usually takes between 10-20 minutes, and there is generally no post-procedure downtime.
